OWASP Philosophy

Hello dear all,

I'm writing a document about OWASP  including its origin, its philosophy, and etc. It causes to arise few questions to me:

  1. What is basic idea of OWASP at first?
  2. Aren't there any equivalent standard or framework before OWASP primary projects?
  3. if answer of Q2 is "yes", then what is the difference between OWASP and others?
